Our trek to Ratangad Fort, a historic gem nestled in the Sahyadris, was an adventure filled with excitement, breathtaking views, and a sense of achievement.
Ratangad, known as the “Jewel of the Sahyadris,” had been on our trekking list for a long time. Located near Bhandardara, it promised a mix of history, adventure, and stunning landscapes. We planned our trek during the post-monsoon season when the weather was pleasant, and the fort was covered in lush greenery. Equipped with trekking shoes, rain gear, snacks, and water, we were all set for the journey.
We started our trek from Ratanwadi Village, home to the ancient Amruteshwar Temple, a beautiful 1,200-year-old Shiva temple. The initial trail was a mix of forest paths, rocky terrain, and thrilling ladders. As we climbed higher, the mist-covered valleys and distant Bhandardara Lake made for a mesmerizing backdrop.
After nearly three hours of trekking, we finally reached Ratangad Fort. The fort’s famous Nedhe (a natural rock hole) was an absolute highlight, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Exploring the fort ruins, ancient water tanks, and bastions made us feel connected to history.
Standing atop Ratangad, with the wind rushing past and clouds floating below us, we felt an immense sense of accomplishment. The trek tested our endurance but rewarded us with stunning landscapes and an unforgettable experience.
As we descended, we carried memories of adventure, history, and the sheer beauty of the Sahyadris. Ratangad Fort was more than a trek—it was an experience of a lifetime! 🏔️🔥
